It's official - I'm an Egghead.
Last Saturday, I went to the 14th annual Eggtoberfest at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The generous people at the Big Green Egg donated passes for myself and my parents to attend this fabulous event.
A Big Green Egg is a ceramic kamado-style cooker. If you own a Big Green Egg, are thinking about purchasing an Egg, or you just like to eat food that has been cooked on a Big Green Egg, I highly recommend attending Eggtoberfest.

When we first arrived at the Speedway, we were given goodie bags, Eggtoberfest t-shirts and coupons for free beer, water and sodas.
The goodie bags were stuffed with seasoning packets, small cedar planks, a magazine and all sorts of fun Big Green Egg stuff.
When we walked through the gates and into Eggtoberfest, we were greeted by the overwhelming aroma of barbeque.
There were tents and tables set up along the infield of the Speedway. Each station had at least one egg and several cooks preparing their specialties on the Big Green Egg.
Each booth offered samples of the food that they had cooked on the Big Green Egg. We did our best to sample a little of everything but there was so much amazing food to taste, it quickly became apparent that we were going to have to pace ourselves if we were going to make it through Eggtoberfest.
Some of my favorite samples:
A grilled cheese sandwich with apples and cheddar,
a breakfast pizza with egg, cheese and bacon
and lots of Italian sausage.
The food was incredible. Some of the booths even had schedules posted of the different foods that they were going to be serving throughout the day. A lot of the cooks also had recipe cards for the patrons to take home. I loaded up on recipes cards. I can't wait to give some of these new recipes a try. I hope they taste as good on my Big Green Egg as they did at Eggtoberfest.
Included in the price of the Eggtoberfest admission ticket are coupons for free beer. Since I'm not a beer drinker I didn't use any of my coupons but I did take advantage of the complimentary water.
We had so much fun walking around meeting the cooks, watching them cook on their Big Green Eggs and of course tasting their food.
Some more of my favorite Big Green Egg creations:
thin crust pizza,
stuffed tomatoes,
grilled pineapple,
pumpkin bread cooked in a can
It was a super fun atmosphere. They even had live music.
Eggtoberfest was a family-oriented event. There was a rock climbing wall, a bungee jump and a huge inflatable Egg. I saw quite a few families enjoying the afternoon at Eggtoberfest together. (By the way, kids under 14 get in free.) It was nice that there were activities to keep restless kids busy and certainly enough food to keep them full. They were also offering pace car rides for an additional fee. If I hadn't have been so full from all my sampling, I might have considered taking a ride.
Dr. BBQ was giving cooking demonstrations on the Big Green Egg throughout the day.
He even posed for a quick picture with a fan.
The cooks were competing for coveted Eggtoberfest awards. Each attendee had the opportunity to vote for their favorite recipes. My favorites were the Norwegian salmon from Certified Steak and Seafood company and the Italian sausage from E. 48th Street market.
Big Green Egg supplied all of the eggs that were used at Eggtoberfest. (There were more than 200 eggs being used at the event.) At the end of the day, the eggs were sold at a discounted price.
We had a fabulous time at Eggtoberfest. A huge thank you to the people at Big Green Egg for the passes to the event. We left with very full bellies, a bag full of goodies and a whole lot of new ideas and recipes to cook on my Big Green Egg.
Make plans to attend Eggtoberfest 2012 - you won't regret it. It happens annually on the third weekend in October. You can find more eggfests that happen all year, all over the country. Check out Big Green Egg.com for dates and locations.
Bon Appetit!
Just got a BGE and I certainly want to go to Eggtoberfest. Waiting to see when the dates are posted.
